You always wished to spend one day in the Swiss Alps? To smell the fresh air, to see high mountains and maybe even glaciers? Then we've got something for you: the IAESTE hiking days on September 4th/ 5th!
The hiking days will take place in the middle of the Swiss Alps. Starting at the southern end of the Lake of Lucerne, we will be hiking in the great scenery of Central Switzerland. The great view from an alpine summit will only be one highlight.
To be able to offer this experience to a maximum number of participants and in order to correspond to your personal needs the best, we have split the weekend into two one-day-trips. On Sunday, we offer a moderate hiking tour for everybody, on Saturday a tough alpine trip for those of you who are not afraid of walking a whole day. Please note that you can only register for one of these two days!
Read the following descriptions to find out what's best for you!
After having met around 10 o'clock in the morning, we first enter a cableway, which brings us up to a level of 1600 meters. After a walk of approximately 2 hours, we reach a small lake, where we have our barbecue. With a little effort, we hike onto a nice, easy summit and enjoy the great scenery up there. In a 1 1/2 hours descent, we reach the cableway and rush back into the valley.
This tour is suited for everybody. You need neither experience nor special equipment nor an extraordinary physical condition. Although this trip is relatively easy, it offers the same great view as severe trips. The number of participants is limited to 40 persons. The participation fee will be around 15 SFr, depending on the number of participants.
For those of you, who want to do something more extreme, we offer a tough trip on Saturday. We will meet on Friday evening. After dinner, we go to bed early, as we have to get up around 5 (!) o'clock in the morning. Reaching a certain height by cable-car, we will walk for approximately 7 to 11 hours, depending on the summit we decide for.
This trip offers a real alpine experience. However, for security reasons, we have to make the following restrictions:
If you are not shocked by this restrictions, this trip will certainly offer you an unforgettable experience to you. Please note that this trip is limited to 10 persons only! The participation fee will be around 25 SFr, depending on the tour we choose.
For both events, the journey to Flüelen has to be organized and paid individually, as well as the food.
For both trips, we will be back at the railway station around 17 to 19 p.m. If you have Gleis 7 /voie 7 /binario 7, you can probably use it for your journey back home.
Both the trips take part in the mountains. Although we have good connections to the weather gods (->Jura Weekend), we are not sure if we can make again good weather. Do not buy your train tickets yet. I will send you an email on Thursday before the event if the trip takes part or not.
The registration procedure is the same as always (registration form on our homepage, or (for those of you who have no internet-access) by e-mail to carstenkatz@hotmail.com). First come first served! Those 50 people, who have registered successfully, will be informed as soon as possible. We will then also provide you with more detailed information. Deadline for registration: Monday, 30. August 99.
See you in the mountains!
