River Rafting Weekend

July 16th - 18th 1999

A Wet Journey on a Wild River

Overview:

We travel to the very east of Switzerland and go River Rafting on the river "Rhein". We sleep there for two nights and will also have some party. On Sunday we go hiking in the near mountains. This trip is intended for all trainees who like action and adventures, and who are not afraid of getting wet.

Program:

Friday, July 16th
Around 7pm:  We meet in Zurich and drive with buses from Zürich to Obersaxen in the canton of Graubünden. Take a sandwich with you!
Night:  Party

Saturday, July 17th
Very Early:  Get up really early and go to Reichenau. We get Neopren dresses and an introduction to the rafting technique.
Whole Day:  The Rafting! We board the boats in Ilanz and attack the 20 km long course of the Rhine back to Reichenau. We have a barbeque for lunch.
Night: Party, if you still can...

Sunday, July 18th
Morning: Recover from the rafting (or the party...)
Afternoon: A hiking tour in the mountains
Evening: Back to Zürich

The detailed programme will be sent to the registered people by e-mail some days before the weekend.

What you need to bring with you:

For the rafting: For the whole weekend:

Remarks about the Rafting:

Rafting is an adventure sport and a wild river is not a harmless thing: You must know swimming and be in normal health-condition. Alcohol before and during the rafting is strictly forbidden. Before the raft you get introduced to the techniques of controlling the boat, and each boat is lead by an experienced rafter. You are protected by a Neopren-watersuit, a helmet and a life-vest. It is recommended to fix your glasses with a rubber-band, to make sure they cannot fall off easily.
Insurance: You must care about insurance yourself. IAESTE cannot be responsible in case of accidents, as cannot be the organizers of the rafting.
