IAAS / IAESTE Farming Weekend, september 15 to 17th

Farm

Thanks to our partnership with IAAS Switzerland (exchange association for agricultural students), we can announce the first weekend of IAESTE Switzerland on a real Swiss farm!
Be a farmer: You can test your skills in mowing by hand and milking.

Why participate?

  • Get to know the IAAS exchange organisation
  • Discover Switzerland finest baroque town
  • See, touch, smell and feed real cows (the animal on the IAESTE T-shirts and on the image on the right side)
  • See mathematics from a different point of view: 33, 11 explanation will follow on the trip

Programme

Friday evening, september 15th
  • Travel to Solothurn with G7 ticket for those who have it
  • Check in in youth hostel
  • Late night sighseeing in the old town of Solothurn, a drink if you like to.
  • Sleeping in the youth hostel
Saturday morning, september 16th
  • Breakfast in youth hostel
  • Guided sight seeing tour in Solothurn, in English
Saturday afternoon, september 16th
  • Travel to Bolken, a village near Solothurn
  • Cows, hay, milk, cheese, fresh bread, honey: Get to know a real swiss farm. Snack is included!
  • Return journey to Solothurn
Saturday evening, september 16th
  • Dinner all together in the youth hostel
  • "IAESTE-IAAS" Evening
  • Going out in Solothurn or enjoy the youth hostel
Sunday morning, september 17th
(for bad weather there will be an alternative)
  • Breakfast in the youth hostel
  • Leaving the rooms, bagage can be left there for the day out.
  • Bus to the foot of the Weissenstein
  • Walk up to the Weissenstein
Sunday afternoon, september 17th
  • Lunch on the top of the Weissenstein
  • Descent by antique chairlift to where we came from
  • Picking up the bagage in the youth hostel
  • Individual return journey

What is IAAS?

The members of IAAS are student associations or groups of students in an (agricultural) university, the so-called 'Committees'. IAAS Headquarters (HQ) is the name of the administrative center of the association. It is an office at the Faculty of Agriculture and applied biological sciences at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. Here all the information about IAAS is gathered and spread out again.

Costs

Costs will be around 110 CHF for guests and about 70 CHF for IAESTE people.

Included

Youthhostel
  1. two nights in a only six year old youth hostel, situated near the river Aare as seen on the right side
  2. two breakfasts
  3. a guided tour in English through Solothurn
  4. the visit on the farm
  5. a dinner on saturday evening, either with meat or vegetarian

Not included

  1. No travelling tickets are included, as everybody has different tickets. Approximate costs:
    Travel to Bolken 0 to 12 CHF, travel to the foot of the Weissenstein 0 to 10 CHF
  2. Lunch for Saturday and Sunday, but can be bought on the producers market in Solothurn. There is time enough for it and the products are all fresh.

The train connections below all leave after 7pm, so you can travel for free, if you are a proud owner of the G7 ticket. If you don't have it, check www.sbb.ch for price information.
