Visit to AlpTransit in Sedrun

Currently one of the most spectacular construction sites in the Alps.

About AlpTransit

The project is creating the world's longest rail tunnel - 58 kilometers from Erstfeld in central Switzerland to Bodio in the Italian-speaking region of southern Switzerland. The project, scheduled to be completed in 2012, is expected to cost more than 10 billion Swiss francs.

Program:

On Thursday 17th October you have the possibility to visit the information center in Sedrun and get a guided tour where you will go into the intermediate access shaft. For more information check out the web site of AlpTransit

The money will be collected at the meeting point. Make sure to withdraw the money before you get on the train, there might be no ATM machine at Sedrun train station.

Suggestion:

Sedrun is located in the valley of the Vorderrhein, a lovely place for hiking tours. If you got some days you can take off from work, combine the visit with some hiking in the area. You could for example walk up to Lai da Tuma, the lake that is said to be the source of the Rhine. Check Youthhostels on www.sjh.ch. The closest ones are Hospenthal (1h away) and Thusis (1.5h away).

After this deadline registration will be open for Swiss Civil Engineering students and IAESTE-Trainees will not have priority anymore.
