Selun Mountain Weekend

September 7th - 8th

Dont miss it!

This is a hiking event for people who want to spend a weekend in the Alps and stay in a simple mountain hut.

Program

Meeting: Saturday, Sep 7th, 08:15, Meeting Point of the Zurich Main Station

Hut We will take a train/bus to Starkenbach. A small cablecar will take us up to 1580m of altitude. We will hike up Mount Selun (2204m), the peak you can see at the right on the picture. This takes about 2 hours and offers a terrific view, especially to lake Walensee right below (and especially if the weather is nice). After a rest, we will hike the same way back down and visit a cave. After one hour's walk we reach our accommodation, the Selamatt mountain hut. We will cook our own dinner and sleep in small dorms (woollen sheets provided) - but of course only after a lot of playing games, chatting, singing... and maybe even a short stargazing walk.

On Sunday, there is enough time for another walk/hike depending on the weather conditions (approx. 2-4 hours). We will be back at Zurich HB around 18:00.

Churfirsten

Please note:

This event takes place in the mountains. You should be reasonably fit to undertake the hike as described, and you should definitely bring good equipment (hiking shoes - no jogging shoes - and a good raincoat). The hike is neither difficult nor dangerous, but people should stick to our instructions. The accommodation provides no luxury but everything necessary, plus a lot of atmosphere. There is electric light and even a shower, but no hot running water... We will cook on a wooden stove. Some soft drinks and beer can be bought at the hut.
