Gruyere Weekend 2003

Jun 7th - Jun 8th
(Sat-Sun)

Chateau Gruyere

Programme

Do you want to see the region where the Gruyere cheese and the famous chocolate Cailler come from? Join the IAESTE weekend in this beautiful landscape!

Saturday, June 7th
Meeting point We will meet at Gruyere Railway station at 10.34 am. The station is not so big that you could get lost there.
During the day Designed by H.R. Gyger We will visit the nice village of Gruyere with its narrow streets and the castles. Depending on your choice, we visit a medieval castle or the museum of H. R. Gyger, the designer of the figures for Alien 1 and 3.
Afterwards you will see how cheese is produced by modern and old methods and you can taste some cheese. Then we take a little railway to go up to our sleeping place with a nice view over the region and the lake of Gruyere.
Sunday, June 8th
Morning /
Whole day
Moleson With a gondola we will go up to the most characteristic mountain in the region, the Moleson, from where we have a nice view over the region. We hike back to Gruyere which takes around 4 hours, passing by pastures and looking at the black and white cows, which are the whole secret of the taste of the cheese and the chocolate. The hiking tour is not too demanding - if you are in a normal healthy condition you will be fine.

Bad-weather-programme for Sunday

If the weather should be bad, we would go to Fribourg and visit the old city centre. But the weather will be good...

Bring with you:

  • Shoes for hiking. Depending on the weather of the days before our trip the path can be quite muddy. So sneakers can be inappropriate or at least you may not recognise them after the trip. If you do not have hiking shoes we recommend to borrow some from friends or working colleagues.
  • Rainwear
  • Picnic for lunch on Saturday and Sunday (sandwiches, fruits, chocolates, enough to drink).
  • Sleeping bag
Swiss bullfighting...

Costs

70 Sfr, to be paid during the weekend.

Included:

  • Transport from Gruyere to Moleson (take your half price ticket/Euro 26 with you)
  • Admission fees to the castle and the cheese factories
  • Lodging on Saturday with traditional dinner and breakfast

Not Included:

  • Picnic
  • Train ticket to and from Gruyere
