Zermatt, at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn, is a world without cars.

Programme

Friday July 18th
21:46 Arrival of the travellers. Meeting point at the train station.
22:00 Walk from the station to the Hotel (Matterhorn hostel).Evening in Zermatt village pubs and discos
Saturday July 19th
8: 00 Breakfast at the Hostel.
10:00 Departure to the Stellisee for visiting the HA Schult's "Trash People" exhibition http://www.haschult.de/

We'll see the 1000 famous sculptures by the German artist HA Schult exhibited at the Stellisee above Zermatt. The Trash People are life-size representations of people created from consumer refuse. They are being exhibited at 10 of the most important places in the history of the world and thus constitute a global sculpture. They have been exhibited so far in front of the Grande Arche in Paris, at the Red Square in Moscow, at the Great Wall of China in Beijing and at the foot of the pyramids in Giza. And this summer they will make a stop in the mountains on their journey around the world and will brave wind and weather face to face with the Matterhorn.
2 choices for going to the Exhibition at Stellisee:
  • Biking on mountain paths
  • Walking
Lunch : picnic at the Stellisee.

19:00 Evening meal at the Hostel
Evening Zermatt pubs, discos, etc.
Sunday July 20th
07:00 Breakfast at the Hostel.
08:00 Hiking tour in the Alps Lunch: Sandwiches are providedReturn down to Zermatt.
18:52 Departure: back home!

Participants & Costs

Number The number of participants is limited to 40 (staff included).

Costs

The weekend costs 140 Sfr for the people who are biking, 110 Sfr for those who are not biking. If you are a guest, (Non IAESTE, ESN, AIESEC or IAAS) 20.Sfr more has to be included in the price.

  • Lodging and breakfast on Friday and Saturday
  • Saturday evening meal (NO drinks!)
  • Sunday Lunch
  • Biking rental (for the "brave" biking peoples! J )
  • Telecabine ticket from Zermatt - Sunnegga
NOT included:
  • Train ticket to and from Zermatt
  • Picnic for Saturday lunch and Sunday evening
  • If you don't want to hike on Sunday, Telecabine ticket

Don't forget

  • to Bring
  • Picnic for Saturday lunch and Sunday evening
  • Hiking shoes (at least sport shoes!!!)
  • Sunglasses, sun cream
  • Raincoat
  • Swimming suit (bad weather -> pool )
  • Cars are NOT allowed in Zermatt village. If you drive, Access for private transport is only allowed as far as Täsch (5km from Zermatt). You will have to park in the valley and end the trip with the train (approx. 10 min, CHF 3.50).
  • Gleis7 can be used ONLY till Visp. For any kind of abonnement (GA/1/2 price), one have to remember to pay his/her own ticket from Visp till Zermatt village!
  • Registration deadline: Tuesday 15th July, noon
  • Once you have registered for this event, your participation is mandatory. Cancellation is allowed before the 15th of July. After the 15th you will be charged the full price even if you do not join.
