Industrial Sights - KKW Leibstadt

In the past, trainees have said that they wished that they had more industry exposure during their time in Switzerland. To respond to this need, IAESTE created "Industrial Sights", for the first time in the summer of 2001. Industrial Sights is designed to take trainees to different companies and introduce them to different technologies. The trips are designed to last between 2 and 4 hours and will cover the basic areas of that particular company.

Don't be scared, this is not school!

Now you might be wondering why you should go. Because it will be fun and the bonus is that you might actually learn something.

Nuclear Powerplant Leibstadt, Leibstadt, Switzerland

KKW Leibstadt

About KKW Leibstadt

KKW Leibstadt was built in 1984 as the fifth and biggest nuclear powerplant ("Kernkraftwerk") of Switzerland. Today it produces 1170 MW and is one of the biggest nuclear powerplants of Europe.
60% of the electricity in Switzerland is produced by hydroplants, 40% by nuclear powerplants.

Programme

An industrial visit has been organised for Friday September 24th to visit the Nuclear Powerplant Leibstadt. The visit will start at 18:45 and last until ca 21:30. It should be interesting for sure!

Update: Due to heavy demand for this trip we organize a second visit for Tuesday September 28th. Priority for this second visit will be given to people on the waitinglist from the first tour given that they confirm (i.e. register again) until Tuesday Sept 14, midnight

We will first visit the information centre which features interesting models about the functionning of a nuclear reactor. On the guided tour throug the powerplant we will then be able to visit the coolig tower, the turbine building and the control room. A small snack is provided by the company.
