Ideas for Alternatives to IAESTE Events

Other Summer Programs

The student organisation esn invites all IAESTE trainees to join their activities and trips. Look at their event program!

Other Ideas

The following list gives you some ideas about what you could do on your "free" weekends in Switzerland:
  • Nature and Sports:
    • Mountain Biking
    • Hiking
    • Skiing (from December to April, but also Summer Skiing on some glaciers, e.g. Glaciers des Diablerets)
    • Mountains: Jungfraujoch (expensive!), Rigi, Pilatus, Säntis, ...
    • Cross Country Skiday
  • Sights, Visits:
    • Cities: Lucerne, Bern, Geneva, Basel, St. Gallen with Bodensee (Lake Constance), Neuchâtel, Schaffhausen (Rheinfall)...
    • Villages: Appenzell, ...
    • Cheese Dairy (Stein AR, Gruyères, Appenzell, late september or early october)
  • Adventure:
    • Bungy Jumping (Centovalli Fun&Action, ...)
    • Go-Kart Driving (Wohlen (outdoors), Rümlang (indoors), ...)
    • Summer Sledging (Atzmänning, ...)
    • Winter Sledging
    • Waterskiing (Skilift in Estavayer-le-Lac)
    • Airolo-Biasca Bike Trip
    • Alpamare
  • Open Air Concerts, Music Events, Film Festivals:

Also have a look at our info pages, you can find more links and tips there.

Planning other things

There are many more things of course! If you need some more advice ask other IAESTE trainees or people from the Local Committee. Most of them show up on the Weekly Meeting. You may also send your questions and suggestions to the trainees-list or to Mireille, LC Zurich's event coordinator.

One of the trainees, Melvin, has also opened his own weblog (not hosted by IAESTE). He invites you to use it to organize and plan meeting other people in the evening or on the weekends. This method may be more convenient for some of you than communicating over the e-mail list because on the weblog you can see all of the conversation for a certain topic together (if people use it, of course). So decide for yourself which method you would like to use.
