Hiking Schwyz ('Easy Hiking')
August 27 - 28, 2005
This is a hiking event for people who want to spend a weekend in the beautiful surroundings of the Swiss Alps.
Program
Saturday, August 27
We meet at 08:00 at the Meeting Point of the Zurich Main Station. If you don't come from Zurich, you can meet us in Seewen SZ (train station Schwyz) at 09:00 (09:06; have a look at the SBB website to find a train).
After discovering a Swiss cheese factory (1/2 h) we move on by bus to Schlattli, where a cable car will take us to Stoos. An easy afternoon hike (approx. 3 - 4h) leads us to the top of the mountain Fronalpstock where a terrific view over central Switzerland, other mountains and the lake of Vierwaldstätten can be enjoyed.
We will spend the evening in a house where we will do our own cooking. The house offers a homely common room, dormitories and several showers (woollen blankets provided).
Sunday, August 28
On Sunday, after cleaning the house there is enough time for another small hike, depending on the weather conditions and people's fitness. As an alternative, take your swimming suit with you, take a swim in the lake nearby and have a relaxing day!
In the later afternoon, a steamboat will take us to Luzern (2.3h), passing the famous Rütli, the Rigi and other mountains. The Gleis 7 ticket can then be used to travel back to Zurich HB (arrival around 21:00).
Please Note
- This event takes place in the mountains. You should be reasonably fit to undertake the easy hike as described, and you should bring good equipment (hiking shoes and a raincoat if rain has to be expected).
- The hikes are neither difficult nor dangerous, but for safety people should really stick to our instructions.
- IAESTE Switzerland and IAESTE LC Basel do not provide any kind of insurance coverage for the hiking. Participating on the weekend means participating at one's own risk. Make sure that you are well insured (medical, accidental & liability insurance!).
- The accommodation provides everything necessary, plus a incomparable view. We will cook our own dinner (and breakfast).
