Experience thrilling action and discover the Alpine scenery of Interlaken!

Interlaken is situated in Berner Oberland between the two lakes Thuner and Brienzer surrounded by beautiful Swiss mountains.

During the River Rafting Weekend we will get the chance to explore this region from the river as well as by foot.

IAESTE LC Basel invites you to experience a thrilling rafting and to discover the beatiful area of Interlaken/Berner Oberland!

Saturday, August 20
11:35: Registration at the train station Interlaken West 12:30: Start of the rafting at the River Rafting Base, luggage deposit Afternoon: Rafting on the black Lütschine between Lütschental and Zweilütschinen Afterwards: check-in in youth hostel Balmer's tents in Interlaken Relaxation at the barbecue venue in Wilderswil From 19:00 on: Big barbecue 23:00: Going back to Interlaken / youth hostel Feel free to discover the nightlife in Interlaken
Sunday, August 21
09:00 - 10:00 Breakfast Hiking in the beautiful Swiss Alps in the Mürren region Visiting the famous waterfalls of Trümmelbach Evening: back in Interlaken, picking up luggage Afterwards: Departure

Prices

With SBB General Abonnement (GA): 110 CHF
With SBB half-fare (1/2): 120 CHF
Without SBB half-fare (1/2): 135 CHF (but we recommend you buying a SBB half-fare card, check the SBB website!)

A surcharge of 30 CHF will apply for participants who are not affiliated with IAESTE or its partner organisations.

The money will be collected at the start of the weekend. Only cash is accepted! :-)

Important - what to bring

If you have Gleis 7: buy a one-way ticket from your city to Interlaken West
If you do not have Gleis 7: buy a round-trip ticket from your city to Interlaken West and back
Lunch for Saturday and drinks for the whole weekend
Swimming suit, towel
Clothes depending on the weather
Good mood and a portion of courage!
Sunglasses and sun cream
Hiking shoes for the hiking tour (NO city shoes or sandales)
Lots of energy and your best smile!
No Sleeping bag required!

Important remarks about rafting

Rafting is an adventure sport, and a wild river is not harmless: You must know swimming and be in normal health-condition. Non-swimmers won't participate on the rafting. Alcohol before and during the rafting is strictly forbidden. Before the raft you get introduced to the techniques of controlling the boat, and each boat is lead by an experienced rafter. A neoprene-wetsuit, a helmet, neoprene shoes and a life jacket protect you. If you wear glasses, we recommend you to fix them with a rubber band as they can easily fall off.

Important notes

IAESTE Switzerland is not responsible for any damage or accident! IAESTE Switzerland and IAESTE Local Committee Basel do not provide any kind of insurance coverage for the river rafting on Saturday and for the hiking on Sunday. Participating on the weekend means participating at one's own risk. Make sure that you are well insured (medical, accidental & liability insurance!).

Meeting Point and Transportation

We will meet at Interlaken West railway station on Saturday at 11:33. Make sure you catch the train IC 1067, arriving in Interlaken West at this time!

Number of participants and registration

Please register for this event between 2005-08-10 13:00 and 2005-08-15 13:00 (registration exclusively electronically and in the given time frame; link for registration published here during this time).

The first ones to do so who fit in our group of up to 65 people (including helpers) are in! If the list of participants is already filled up, you can still register. You are then added to the waiting list, and with a bit of luck you can still join!
