People from further away

If you are coming from far away and want to start from Zurich, you can try asking the fellow trainees in Zurich to accommodate you.

Participation Details & Costs

Airboard

The number of participants is limited to 50 persons (staff included).

Costs

GA*CHF 105.-Price without train ticket (not necessary because of GA)
1/2**CHF 120.-Price with a half-fare ticket (Halbtax-Abonnement)
FullCHF 130.-Price with full-price train ticket

SurchargeCHF 20.-Additional cost if you are a guest (not from IAESTE, ESN, AIESEC or IAAS)
*GA = General-Abonnement, a free-ride-ticket for a whole year.
**1/2 = "Halb-Tax Abonnement" - the half price ticket. All tickets you buy are half price for one year
Here we would recommend that if you don't have a Halb-Tax Abonnement (Half-Fare Card) yet that you should buy one! You will save CHF 20 on this trip alone, and you will only pay half price for every other train ride you take from now on. For one year it costs CHF 150. For more information, visit the SBB website. For those of you who feel CHF 150 is too much, you can also get a Weekend Halb-Tax, which costs CHF 30 and is valid for one month (5 weekends in a row). We recommend this if you are only here for one month, and if you only travel on weekends. Otherwise the regular Halb-Tax Abonnement is preferable. See the website for more information.

The participation fee is paid at the beginning of the weekend.

  • Included in base price:
Transport by train from Luzern to Engelberg and back, ticket for cable car to Mount Titlis, ticket for IceFlyer (chair lift on the glacier), lodging, dinner on Saturday (NO drinks!) and breakfast on Sunday.
  • Not included:
Travel from your home to Lucerne and back, lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Don't forget:

  • Lunch and drinks for Saturday and Sunday (The lunch for Sunday can also be bought in Engelberg after the airboarding)
  • Swimming suit, towel
  • Money
  • Clothes depending on the weather
  • Winter clothes, alternatively: Warm clothes covered by a rain jacket and trousers
  • Water proof gloves
  • Hiking boots (Runners, city shoes or sandals NOT suitable for airboarding!!!)
  • Sun cream or even better "Sun block".
  • Sun glasses!!!
  • Good mood and a portion of courage!

If you didn't bring warm clothes (gloves, cap) to Switzerland - please ask your workmates or roommates if you can borrow some.

Important

Train ticket updates

  • Due to high number of people coming from Zurich or surroundings, we will also buy a group ticket from ZURICH (only from Zurich, not from other cities) to Luzern for one way on Saturday. Please write (in the remarks section) if you want us to include you when registering.
  • Please do indicate whether you have only Halbtax, Halbtax and Gleis 7, only Gleis 7, GA, or nothing. Usually (but not always) you have Halbtax when you have Gleis 7 -- please tell us!

The Airboard is a new type of winter sport equipment, invented here in Switzerland. We rented 25 Airboards, directly from the inventor. Since we are more people, two people will be sharing a board. This gives you the choice of waiting for your partner and commenting on his latest wild stunt, or you can enjoy the Glacier Fun Park.

Glacier

Remember, we will be on a glacier. It is a high alpine environment: There might be glacier gaps, the weather can change quickly. Therefore: Never ever leave the marked slopes!

Safety on Airboard

Please check the safety recommendations by visiting the Airboard website (click on Products, then on Safety Instructions).

IAESTE Switzerland is not responsible for anything in case of an accident. Make sure that you are well insured.

Number of participants and registration

Please register for this event between 2006-06-20 09:00 and 2006-06-21 17:00 (registration exclusively electronically and in the given time frame, valid e-mail address required; link for registration published here during this time).

The first ones to do so who fit in our group of up to 50 people (including helpers) are in! If the list of participants is already filled up, you can still register. You are then added to the waiting list, and with a bit of luck you can still join!

Further details

If you have any question, feel free to ask us! Send an e-mail to airboard2006{-at-}iaeste{.}ch*.

We are looking forward to having a good time together with you!
