Hiking Alvier ('Hard Hiking')
September 9-10, 2006

Experience the breathtaking view from the peak of Alvier mountain 2343 meters above sea level!

Important remarks about this hike

We will start our hike in Buchs SG which is 450 meters above sea level. The peak is 2343 meters above sea level consequently we have to gain almost 2000 meters of elevation. This means you should be in good condition and you shouldn't be overweight! We will walk for about 5 hours up step trails. We will go to an alpine area. With the right equipment, good preparation and responsible behaviour it is not dangerous. Failure to comply will result in you being sent home. The tour will only take place when the weather is good. The LC Basel will decide at 16:00 o'clock Friday the 8th whether it will take place or not. Here will tell you whether we will go:

The event will take place.

To assess whether it will take place or not we consulted these weather links:

Programme:

Meeting Point: Saturday morning (September 9th) at 08:50 o'clock in Buchs SG (be careful: there are several Buchs in Switzerland!) in front of the Kiosk near platform 1

Please check the SBB website to find a suitable train to Buchs SG.

Saturday:

View from Alvier
  • 8:50 Meeting at railway station
  • 9:00-9:10 quick opportunity to buy lunch at Coop
  • 9:10-12:00 hiking
  • 12:00-13:00 lunch
  • 13:00-16:00 hiking
  • 18:00 dinner
  • We will sleep in a hut on the top of the peak

Sunday:

Peak of Alvier
  • Hiking back
  • If possible: Visiting a hut where cheese is produced during the summer months
  • When the weather is nice and hot we have the possibility to jump into a reservoir on our way back home or to go to the public pool in Buchs
  • Opportunity to relax, hang around and have some dinner until 19:00 o'clock to be able to use Gleis7

Equipment:

  • Bring your own lunch for Saturday and Sunday (suggestions: bread, cheese, sausages (Salsiz, Landjälger, Cervelat) which can be eaten raw, chocolate, dried fruits)
  • at least 1.5 Liter to drink
  • Raincoat
  • Rucksack
  • Sunglasses and sun cream
  • Personal medicine (allergic persons)
  • There are basic blankets. If you would like to have it more comfortable: sleepingbag
  • Good shoes (people without decent shoes won't be allowed to participate and will be sent home!)
  • Stuff you need to go swimming
Your luggage has to weight less than 8 kg in total. Otherwise it will be too exhausting to carry it to the peak. You are able to buy drinks and food in the hut. Although the prices are quite high becuase they have to fly everything to the hut by helicopter. I recommend to bring a bottle of red wine for the evening. There is no drinking water in the hut. It is possible to buy water which is drinkable but it tastes nasty and is quite expensive (1 liter for about 2 CHF). Please consider this while packing.

You can buy good shoes and other hiking equipment at Bächli Bergsport, Transa and other places.

Shoes which are considered as appropriate:

Costs:

CHF 35.-

Included:

  • dinner
  • lodging
  • breakfast on Sunday morning

Important notes
