IAESTE Easy Hiking Weekend 2007
September 15-16
|
Have you ever been to Pontresina?
Pontresina is located in the highest-altitude valley
that branches off from the Upper Engadine.
It's a sunny place, protected from the winds, that lies on a slope
opening towards the southwest. Pontresina
continues to be a typical Engadine
village, stretching along the valley's longitudinal axis. It is embedded
in dense woods and stone pine trees. Pontresina
ascends from 1,777m to 1,860m above sea level.
There are many great attractions in Engadine
that we will be visiting…first we will take the cable car to Diavolezza
for one of the most stunning panoramic
views in Switzerland. From there we will hike among glaciers
and some of the most famous Swiss mountains towering over 4000 meters
high! We will stay in Pontresina, and enjoy an amazing holiday house,
as
well as a great nightlife downtown. Our second day we have the chance
to briefly
visit a small cheese factory before a small hike to the Morteratsch
Glacier that stretches almost 7 km. long! We will end the weekend with
a visit to Scuol to enjoy the famous thermal baths, with several pools
inside and outside for extreme muscle relaxation.
