IAESTE Industrial Sight KKW Leibstadt
November 24
In the past, trainees have said that they wished that they had more
industry exposure during their time in Switzerland. To respond to
this need, IAESTE created "Industrial Sights", for the first time in
the summer of 2001. Industrial Sights is designed to take trainees
to different companies and introduce them to different technologies.
The trips are designed to last between 2 and 4 hours and will cover
the basic areas of that particular company.
Don't be scared, this is not school!
Nuclear Power Plant Leibstadt
The nuclear power plant Leibstadt was built in 1984
as the fifth and biggest nuclear power plant in Switzerland. It is still one of the biggest in Europe.
Today it produces 1165 MW of power.
Around 55% of the electricity in Switzerland is produced by hydroplants, 40% is nuclear energy.
Program:
The visit of the power plant will take place on Saturday, November 24th. The following things are planned:
- Meeting at Zurich main station and in Baden
- Train and bus to the power plant
- Start: 09:15
- Short movie about the plant
- Guided tour through the information center (very well made!)
- Coffee break
- Exploring the inside of the cooling tower
If you don't have the possibility to visit such a power plant or if you simply don't have any in your country
this is your chance to get to know them! The information center is very well made. You will hear everything about the functioning and safety of the plant
as well as the nuclear waste handling. In the end we will have the possibility to visit the cooling tower and actually walk around inside!
A coffee break will be provided as well.
